We travel to the geographical sights of Spitzkoppe and onto the Skeleton Coast National Park. Heading inland via Grootberg with it’s fantastic views of the surrounds and to Etosha National Park with its wealth of fauna and flora, your game viewing experiences continue as we visit the AfriCat Foundation and a private reserve before travelling south into the Kalahari area of Namibia, down to the Fish River Canyon, ending in the coastal town of Luderitz (from where flight connections can be made to Windhoek or Cape Town).

Itinerary

Day 1 - Day at leisure - Meet in Swakopmund

Day at leisure in Swakopmund. Our guide will travel through from Windhoek today to join you at the coast.

Day 2 - Swakopmund - Spitzkoppe

Route:      Swakopmund to Spitzkoppe
Distance: 153 km

Journey: Leaving the coast we head inland towards the sun drenched town of Usakos heading to the bald granite peaks that are Spitzkoppe. Your guide will take you on an afternoon walk in the area, best time for photography is during mid to late afternoon just on sunset.

Day 3 - Spitzkoppe - Grootberg/Kaokoveld

Route:      Spitzkoppe to Grootberg Lodge
Distance: 345 km

Journey: Leaving Spitzkoppe we wend our way to the abandoned mining town of Uis through the picturesque Damaraland region and up the Grootberg Pass to the lodge.

Day 4 - Grootberg Area - Damaraland

Journey:  Grootberg Lodge Rhino Tracking involves guests being taken on an unforgettable exploration on foot amidst the cliffs of the Klip River Valley and rising plateau of volcanic basalt ridges, by dedicated guides and local trackers. The activity is managed, and the number of guests participating is restricted to a maximum of 10 people per day, to ensure that it is both natural and non-obtrusive for the animals.

Day 5 - Grootberg - Etosha National Park

Route:      Grootberg Lodge to Okaukuejo Resort
Distance: 292 km

Journey: After breakfast we travel to the town of Kamanjab and onwards to Outjo for a short stop before proceeding on to arrive, in time for lunch, in Etosha National Park. A short game drive on arrival - an afternoon game drive will be done in touring vehicle.

Day 6 - Etosha National Park Game Drives

Journey: Full day in the Okaukuejo region on morning and afternoon game drives in our touring vehicle.

Day 7 - Okaukuejo - Namutoni

Route:      Okaukuejo Resort - Namutoni Resort
Distance: Game drive

Journey: today we are flexible depending on your requirements. The day can unfold by heading out at dawn into the Okaukuejo area for a game drive, returning for breakfast before packing the vehicle and heading off towards Namutoni. Alternatively up early, pack vehicle, quick breakfast and head off. Our guide will advise on the best option for the day once there as weather and game viewing opportunities vary day to day.
Lunch will be taken at the most central of the Resorts, Halali, before travelling to Namutoni for overnight.

Day 8 - Namutoni

Journey:  Morning and afternoon game drives in the Namutoni area in our touring vehicle.

Day 9 - Namutoni - Okonjima

Route:      Onguma Game Reserve - Okonjima Nature Reserve
Distance: 355 km

Journey: Leaving the Etosha National Park behind us we travel via the mining town of Tsumeb and south to Otjiwarongo. We aim to arrive at Okonjima just after lunch so as you can participate in the afternoon endangered species game drive.

Day 10 - Okonjima - Erindi Nature Reserve

Route:      Okonjima Nature Reserve - Erindi Nature Reserve
Distance: 160 km

Journey:  After our visit to the AfriCat Centre we take a leisurely drive to Erindi Nature Reserve arriving in time to settle in and have lunch.

Day 11 - Erindi Private Game Reserve - Bagatelle Game Reserve

Route:       Erindi to Bagatelle Game Reserve
Distance: 442 km

Journey: Early departure from Erindi as we travel to Okahandja and through the city of Windhoek to Rehoboth, our destination for today is a private Reserve situated on the edge of the southern Kalahari are of Namibia, this is an area of mixed tree and shrub savannah crisscrossed by red sand dunes – quite different to the Namib Desert. During the afternoon we will take an afternoon nature drive in the Reserve where we hope to see various antelope species, ostrich, zebra and if lucky meerkats.

Day 12 - Bagatelle - Canyon Roadhouse

Route:      Bagatelle to Canyon Roadhouse
Distance: 410 km

Journey: An early morning start as we travel down to Keetmanshoop, the original population of the town by a Nama tribe reaches back to the end of the 18th century. Our destination being the Fish River Canyon, the largest canyon in Africa and forms part of the Ai-Ais Richtersveld Tansfrontier Park.

Day 13 - Canyon Roadhouse - Lüderitz

Route:      Canyon Roadhouse to Lüderitz
Distance: 385 km

Journey: Our travels today take us to the coastal town of Lüderitz nestling between the Namib Desert and south Atlantic. During 1908 a black worker Zacharias Lewala found a diamond during his work at the narrow-gauge railway, this led to a diamond rush which turned Lüderitz into a very wealthy town. As the diamonds petered out the town lost most of its importance and today Lüderitz has a lucrative fishing industry.

Day 14 - Lüderitz - Duwiseb

Route:      Lüderitz to Duwiseb
Distance: 340 km

Journey: Today we travel to the settlement of Aus and across to Duwiseb Castle which is replete with history and romance. The Castle was built by a German army officer for his American bride in the early 1900s. Apart from being a gift of love, Duwisib Castle was a dream turned into reality for the Baron who had planned on breeding horses in this semi-desert environment. Sadly, he was killed during the First World War. His wife left for America, never to return, leaving the castle and all of its contents and dreams behind.

Route:      Duwiseb to Windhoek

Journey: Today's journey takes us to the settlement of Maltahöhe, Mariental and back into Windhoek.
