After departing from Swakopmund, our journey takes us north along the coastline towards Cape Cross Seal Reserve. Continuing further north, we reach the Skeleton Coast National Park. A notable attraction along the way is the Ugab River Gate, adorned with two skeleton heads and whale bones on either side. This unique sight has become quite popular. As we travel along the main road near the shore, you may catch a glimpse of the remnants of the 'South West Seal' shipwreck from 1976. While exploring this area, we will pause for a brief walk into the river bed, providing an opportunity to observe animal tracks and vegetation. Keep an eye out for tracks left by oryx, springbok, black-backed jackal, and possibly brown hyena. Moving north of the Ugab Gate, we encounter the decaying remains of an old oil rig, now serving as a nesting site for a breeding colony of Cape Cormorants. This colony attracts brown hyenas and black-backed jackals. Continuing south of Terrace Bay, we reach the Uniab River Delta, where a hide has been established next to a waterhole. Here, we will take a moment to observe the diverse wildlife and bird species.
