Rooisand Desert Ranch is situated on the fringe of the Namib Desert in Namibia’s Central Region, at the C 26 between the mountain passes of Gamsberg and Kuiseb, halfway between Windhoek (170 km) and Walvis Bay on the Atlantic coast (190 km). The farm has a size of some 12.000 ha, a huge area by European standards. Surrounded by the magnificent scenery of red sand dunes – deposited in distant times by winds from the Kalahari Desert – vast grasslands and rugged mountains, ROOISAND Desert Ranch close to the Gamsberg affords its guests a relaxing sojourn with every convenience.
Erongo Region Accommodation
The Ameib Rhino Sanctuary which is part of the Erongo Mountain Rhino Sanctuary Trust, is a specially protected wilderness area with guest house in the Erongo Mountains, offering 10 guest rooms and 10 camping sites. The farm is among other things popular for two interesting sights: The Bull’s Party with the elephant head, a collection of impressing granite rock formations and the Phillipp’s Cave, an old cave of the San where they created many interesting rock paintings, including the very popular white elephant.
Kashana is based in a historic building constructed in 1907 as a casino for local mine-workers. It is thought that the house probably gained its name from the surrounding bush savannah which resembled a wide open plain or ‘Kashana’ in the Owambo language. The years took their toll on the building and after painstaking restoration to its former glory it once again reflects its German colonial heritage and was re-opened in 2007. Today, the building is the centerpiece of a Lodge-style Guesthouse with a novel and attractive bar and a popular all-day à la carte restaurant, frequented not only by residents, but also by passing travellers and local townspeople, all enjoying the tranquil shade of the garden courtyard.
Spitzkoppe Mountain Tented Camp is situated only one km from the beautiful Spitzkoppe Mountains. The campsite boasts pre-erected safari tents, and camping sites ideal for families and groups. The area is popular with mountain climbers, hikers and star gazers. The camp offers comfortable safari tents, already set up and wait for your arrival and camping sites with private bathrooms, showers and electrical points. Each tent sleeps three people and has a private bathroom with running water and flush toilets. Bar and Restaurant is available however guest can also bring their own catering equipment and staff are available to assist with any requests. Braai facilities and washing up areas are provided at each campsite. Guests can enjoy sunset tours a guided drive or walk to the popular Bushmen Paintings or mountain biking.
Erongo Plateau Camp is situated in the heart of the Erongo mountain range near Omaruru. This is the gate to Damaraland where you find the famous desert elephants or ancient Himba tribe in Kaokoveld. It is also within comfortable traveling distance to Swakopmund, Hentiesbay, Twyfelfontein, Etosha or even the capital city Windhoek. The camp provides three private campsites. Several excursions can be made including visits of interesting sights in the Erongo mountains such as Bull’s Party and Phillip’s Cave.
