Travel through the Kalahari region of Namibia to the Fish River Canyon and on to the Aus and the ghost town of Kolmanskop. No visit to Namibia should be without a stay in the Namib Desert where a visit is made to Sossusvlei. Via Swakopmund to Damaraland with it’s wealth of rock engravings and desert adapted species. Further north we travel through Kaokoland, visit the nomadic Himba people and spend time in the tranquil setting of Epupa Falls on the Kunene River. Turning southward spend time on a private concession as well as within Etosha National Park where a wide variety of fauna and flora is to be seen. This wonderful journey through Namibia ends with a few nights at the Cheetah Conservation Fund.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Windhoek International airport - City

Route:      Windhoek Hosea Kutako International airport - City
Distance: 48 km

Journey: on arrival at Windhoek International airport you will be met and transferred to your overnight accommodation in the City.

Day 2 - Windhoek - Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch

Route:      Windhoek to Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch
Distance: 265 km

Journey: Your vehicle will be delivered to you this morning. Leaving Windhoek head south passing through the town of Rehoboth, your destination for today is a private Reserve situated on the edge of the southern Kalahari are of Namibia, this is an area of mixed tree and shrub savannah crisscrossed by red sand dunes – quite different to the Namib Desert.

Day 3 - Bagatelle to Fish River Lodge

Route:      Bagatelle to Fish River Lodge
Distance: 452 km

Journey: An early morning start as you travel down to Keetmanshoop, the original population of the town by a Nama tribe reaches back to the end of the 18th century, proceed on to the Fish River region.

Day 4 - Fish River Lodge

Experience an amazing variety of geological features as you journey into the depths of the second largest canyon in the world. See rough limestone, shiny quartzite, fine shale and dramatic fault lines. Catch your breath as you take in the dramatic views of the river before descending into the base of the canyon for refreshments by the river. The activity includes a delicious light lunch on returning from the Rock Pools. The excursion is approximately 7 hours

Day 5 -  Fish River Lodge - Aus

Journey: After breakfast bid farewell to the Fish River Canyon as you head to the settlement of Aus.

There are a range of activities you could do today from taking a morning trip to Lüderitz and viewing Kolmanskop (Ghost town), or participating in one of the activities the lodge has to offer.

Day 7 - Aus to Namib Nauklfut Park – Hoodia Desert Lodge

Route:      Aus to Namib Nauklfut Park – Hoodia Desert Lodge
Distance: 363 km

Journey: Today you will be spending time travelling through the southern Namib, passing rural communities on the way. This is a bleak, harsh and forbidding landscape yet we come across some open savannah and farms before encountering the dunes of the Namib Desert. Aim to arrive at the Lodge with sufficient time for you to check in before heading out on the sundowner drive.

Day 8 - Namib Desert

Hoodia Desert Lodge Sossusvlei Tour features a professionally guided tour to Sossusvlei. Visitors will discover the world of dunes, the vleis and photographic beauty of the desert. As a highlight of the tour, visitors will enjoy an exclusive dune lunch with fine wines, delicious food and ice cold beverages. The experience ends with a hike to the Sesriem Canyon and back to the Hoodia Desert Lodge in the 4X4 safari vehicle in the late afternoon.

Day 9 - Hoodia Desert Lodge - Swakopmund

Route:      Hoodia Desert Lodge - Swakopmund
Distance: 345 km

Journey: Leave the Sesiem area to the settlement of Solitaire, not far north of this we cross the Tropic of Capricorn. The surrounds of the Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons provide good geological phenomenon, in addition you may see the elusive Mountain Zebra before travelling across the gravel plains of the Namib Desert with its endless horizons, your destination the Atlantic Ocean and coastal town of Swakopmund.

Day 10 - Swakopmund, Sandwich Harbour

Located roughly 50 kilometres from Walvis Bay, Sandwich Harbour is a natural lagoon framed by sand dunes on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. It is a prime angling and bird-watching site, with countless sea birds coming to feed on the rich fish population, including rare white pelican and vivid flocks of pink flamingos.

Day 11 - Swakopmund, marine cruise

Marine Cruise to Pelican Point and Walvis Bay’s beautiful bay area. The chances of encountering dolphins, whales, turtles, seals and Mola Mola (sunfish) make the search for the marine big 5 and adventurous tour by enjoying sparkling wine, fresh oysters and other mouth-watering snacks aboard the spacious and comfortable catamarans.

Day 12 - Swakopmund - Mowani Mountain Camp

Route:      Swakopmund - Mowani Mountain Camp
Distance: 323 km

Journey: Travel north along the coastline to Cape Cross Seal Reserve, home to between eighty and one hundred thousand Fur seals, endemic to southern Africa they are commonly known as “eared seals”. Leaving the coast behind we cross the plains heading to the old mining town of Uis, Your travels will take you past the Brandberg Mountain as you head into Damaraland, an area characterised by its rocky and rugged landscapes of rough, fascinating beauty. Aim to arrive into camp with sufficient time before setting off on a sundowner drive which meanders around the surrounding areas with spectacular views of the dunes, open plains and rock formations, ending high up on a koppi for the most spectacular African sunset.

Day 13 - Damaraland

Day 17 - Epupa Falls Lodge - Hobatere Lodge

Journey: Return to the town of Opuwo and then head due south to a private concession situated outside the western boundary fence of Etosha National Park.

Journey: a morning game drive as you exit the Concession area, a short drive takes you to the Otjovosandu entrance gate to the Etosha National Park. Game view your way through this previously restricted area to Okaukuejo Resort.

Full day in the Okaukuejo region on morning and afternoon game drives in your touring vehicle.

Day 21 - Okaukuejo Resort - Mushara Lodge

Route:      Okaukuejo Resort - Mushara Lodge
Distance: Game drive

Journey: today we are flexible depending on your requirements. The day can unfold by heading out at dawn into the Okaukuejo area for a game drive, returning for breakfast before packing the vehicle and heading off towards Namutoni. Alternatively up early, pack vehicle, quick breakfast and head off.
Stop to stretch legs at Halali or have lunch here. Exit the National Park and drive the short distance to Mushara Lodge.
