This self-drive tour visits Okonjima, home of the AfriCat Foundation, a private concession bordering the western side of Etosha National Park and up to the Kunene River and Epup...
The program has a walking element to it, starting with time spent in the Erongo Region your travels take you to Twyfelfontein area to view the rock art in the area. In the Palmwag area there is a two night stay, walking between camps on the Etendeka Concession, a great way to see the fauna, flora and geology of the area. From here our attention turns to the rich game viewing area in and surrounding Etosha National Park. This continues as we visit the AfriCat Foundation before heading back to Windhoek.

• A valid driver’s license is required for all drivers. If this license is not printed in English it must be accompanied by an International Driver’s License or an EU drivers licence is also acceptable.

Distance: 48 km
Journey: You will be met at Hosea Kutako International Airport and transfer you to the City, check in to your guest house.
Route: Windhoek to Ai-Aiba Lodge
Distance: 250 km
Journey: Leisurely departure from Windhoek this morning as you travel via Okahandja to the Erongo region near Omaruru. On arrival you may wish to join a San Living Museum Tour, these vary in duration from 2-4 hrs depending on where your interests lie: Bushwalk – learn about hunting, snaring, tracking, lighting fire and collecting bush food; Life in the Village – learn about singing and dancing, lighting a fire, making ropes & jewellery; Combination (Action day) – A combination of the bushwalk and the “live in the village” tour.
Late afternoon follow this up with a guided sundowner walk, this is close to the lodge up a granite hill from where you can relax and enjoy the sun set over spectacular views of the Erongo Mountains.
Route: Ai-Aiba Lodge - Camp Kipwe
Distance: 225 km
Journey: Morning departure from the Erongo Region wend your way to the abandoned mining town of Uis through the picturesque Damaraland region to your Lodge for overnight.
Route: Camp Kipwe - Palmwag (meeting point for trail)
Distance: 105 km
Journey: You may wish to take a morning activity - the Elephant drive - with the Lodge, this drive is between 4-6 hrs and departs at 06h30. There is sufficient time to get to your meeting point for 15h00.
Etendeka walking trail : Track through dry Mopani shaded river beds and past other-worldly rocky outcrops as our guides identify spoor, indigenous animal, bird and plant species. Exploring this terrain on foot is a heightened and invigorating meeting of man and nature.
Namibia is one of the top destinations in the world for stargazing with its unusually dark night skies. On a cloudless night you will be overwhelmed by the spectacular sight of the Milky Way stretching overhead.
Wholesome meals are cooked over, and enjoyed around, the open fire with your guide being your host and companion.

Complete the walk and return to Palmwag on a scenic nature drive. Remainder of day at leisure to relax at Palmwag or participate in an afternoon activity - either a walk or nature drive.

Distance: 210 km
Journey: Leaving the Palmwag concession travel up the Grootberg Pass to a private concession situated outside the western boundary fence of Etosha National Park.
Nestled on the banks of the Otjovasandu River the Lodge promises uniquely Namibian encounters with their rich diversity of game, including elephant and lion.
Route: Hobatere Lodge - Okaukuejo
Distance: 180 km
Journey: a morning game drive as you exit the Concession area, a short drive takes you to the Otjovosandu entrance gate to the Etosha National Park. Game view your way through this previously restricted area to Okaukuejo Resort.
Route: Okaukuejo Resort - Onguma Game Reserve
Distance: Game drive
Journey: today we are flexible depending on your requirements. The day can unfold by heading out at dawn into the Okaukuejo area for a game drive, returning for breakfast before packing the vehicle and heading off towards Namutoni. Alternatively up early, pack vehicle, quick breakfast and head off.
Route: Onguma Game Reserve - Okonjima Nature Reserve
Distance: 350 km
Journey: Leaving the Etosha National Park behind us we travel via the mining town of Tsumeb and south to Otjiwarongo. We suggest you arrive at Okonjima just after lunch so as you can participate in the afternoon endangered species game drive.

Journey: Optional morning activity before travelling back to the city of Windhoek via Okahandja.
