Fill up on smiles at this extraordinary and out-of-the-ordinary lodge. Resembling a roadhouse of old with a large red roof, the lodge is a veritable treasure-house and a ‘must-do’ stop when visiting the canyon. The outside area hints of the wonderland interior with its rusty old Chevys and Fords from a bygone era, adorned with corky quiver trees and desert flora. Canyon Roadhouse has more than just a fascinating interior. Large attractive rooms, positioned around courtyards, make the Roadhouse a comfortable – and convenient – base when visiting the Fish River Canyon, just 14 kilometres away. The Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF), which was already founded in the year of Namibian independence in 1990, is fighting for the survival of the cheetah in its natural habitat and is worldwide the number one address when it comes to these fast, African big cats. For this purpose, the CCF is running the renowned Research and Education Centre close to Otjiwarongo and the Waterberg, which combines research on and education about the fascinating cats. Here scientists, researchers, but most importantly visitors and normal cheetah fans get an interesting insight into the life of the fastest land mammal on earth. The Babson Guesthouse is an exclusive, luxurious accommodation run by the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF). It offers room for six guests and thus guarantees a very personalized service.

Built in the wattle and daub style under Mopane trees and connected by a labyrinth of paths, the main building and chalets of the lodge look like an African village. The walls are adorned by copies of the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein. Each of the 60 double room chalets (with air conditioning) sits in a vegetable and herb garden surrounded by a low wall. The gardens supply fresh ingredients for supper, which consists of a starter followed by a delicious buffet. There is a swimming pool for chilling out and a viewing point for relishing sunsets. The lodge at the gates of Damaraland is ideally suited for excursions to Twyfelfontein, the Petrified Forest and the Vingerklip rock pillar.

Damaraland Camp is situated in the Huab River Valley in one of the best wilderness areas in Namibia, offering endless vistas across stark plains, ancient valleys and a stunning ochre-purple mountain backdrop. Activities include nature drives and walks while further afield, ancient rock art and geological wonders dot the area. Ten large adobe-style thatched units (including a family unit) are raised off the ground, each with a walk-in dressing area and a large deck on which to sit and contemplate the desert. The spacious public living area comprises a dining area and swimming pool. An open campfire and outdoor boma are enjoyed during calm evenings and stargazing is superb, thanks to the crystal-clear night skies.

The Dead Valley lodge is situated inside the Namib – Naukluft Park, in-between Seriem and Elim Dune. The free standing climate-controlled luxury tented chalets each with a panoramic view of the Namib Desert with towering red sand dunes, rugged mountain ranges, and arid desert savannahs.
