Dramatically set in the foothills of the Grootberg massif, Etendeka Mountain Camp appeals to the traveller who is prepared to step outside of their comfort zone and experience this remote wilderness with its harsh beauty in an authentic way. Here one is reminded that we are all guests of Mother Nature. Pathways lead to ten private shaded en-suite Meru tents with their stunning eco-friendly open-air “bucket” showers. The tents and bathroom have individual solar lighting. It is simple comfort in a rugged and harsh landscape. A rich and diverse environment to be explored on foot or on a scenic drive. The Etendeka basalt lava flows and flat top mountains are nothing short of spectacular and although seemingly inhospitable are full of hidden life.

The Etendeka Overnight Walking Trail Experience set in the foothills of the Grootberg Massif is a unique new offering from the Etendeka Lodge. Choose either the 2 or 3 night experience with the additional option of extending your experience with a night or two at the original Etendeka Mountain Camp. The experience promises to be an authentic and exhilarating engagement with nature. Trek through one of Namibia’s most remote and untouched landscapes on foot, have sundowners as you look out over never ending vistas of ancient rock formations and sleep under a blanket of stars. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to connect with nature.

Hidden among large grey granite boulders and mopane trees, Hoada Campsite has the trimmings of a serene home in the wilderness. A well-maintained gravel road, requiring a high clearance vehicle, leads to the camp, located approximately 75 km west of Kamanjab. Pitch your tent in one of the spacious campsites or book one of our 4 permanent tented units. Each site has ample space for roof tents and is equipped with a kitchen area and BBQ facilities, a flush toilet and an open-air shower with warm water. On hot afternoons, take a dip in the pool nestled between the rocks and enjoy a drink on the wooden decks around it.

Luxurious Lodge with two suites and 14 rooms with various views depending on type of view-room booked, nestled amongst the boulders throughout the mountain. The lodge is located close to the UNESCO heritage site of Twyfelfontein and where the desert adapted elephants roam.  The Twyfelfontein conservancy has been protecting the southern most roaming ground of the black rhino and elusive desert elephant. Sustainable eco-tourism and community upliftment is of the utmost importance at Mowani. Guides from the local tribes compliment day-time game drives to track mountain zebra, kudu, springbok, klipspringer and if you are fortunate enough… the leopard! The adventurer in me took over at Mowani. Days were filled with game drives, hot air balloon trips over the Aba-Huab Valley, champagne breakfasts and al fresco meals amidst the dusky landscape beneath Mopani trees.

Khorixas Rest Camp offers value-for-money Khorixas accommodation in the heart of Damaraland. It is a great stopover when visiting Etosha National Park. The ancient rock art galleries of Damaraland is a popular attraction. Therefore, you can arrange day trips to see the rock engravings nearby. The region is also famous for the migrating of the desert-adapted elephants and vast landscapes. Khorixas Rest Camp offers accommodation in 26 Chalets, 2 family Chalets, 10 Single Rooms and 14 Campsites .  A pool and a curio kiosk are also available.

Perched on the rim of the Etendeka Plateau, Grootberg Lodge stands sentinel over the Klip River Valley. The lodge is the ideal midway stopover for visitors travelling between Etosha National Park and Swakopmund, allowing them to experience the true wilderness that is Damaraland. Fourteen cosy twin chalets and two-family units, powered with solar energy, are perched along the edge of the Etendeka Plateau and will make you feel at home. They are built from natural materials to blend into the surroundings. Private decks provide stunning views across the Klip River Valley. Each chalet is equipped with a private bathroom, a desk and a coffee and tea station. There are no electrical outlets, but we have a charging station in the main area of the lodge.

Ugab Terrace Lodge is set deep in the heart of a rare and untouched mystery situated within Namibia’s famous tourist attractions. The lodge provides a unique African experience with friendly staff and delicious cuisine that will make visitors feel at home. Indulge in the breathtaking view while enjoying a refreshing drink and overwhelming experiences of bathing in a splash pool constructed in the natural rocks at the top of the mountain surrounded by unspoiled valleys and bush. IGowati Country Lodge in Damaraland is situated in the town of Khorixas and is in close vicinity of Vingerklip, Petrified Forrest, Burnt Mountain, Twyfelfontein and Organ Pipes. The lodge is also the perfect stopover on your way to Etosha or Uis and the White Lady rock painting or even Torra Bay and the Skeleton Coast Park. The lodge offer 19 en-suite rooms, 6 family units, 2 self-catering units and 3 single rooms at affordable prices. There are fans in the rooms, a la carte restaurant, bar with DSTV and swimming pool. Rooms are either double or twin beds. 10 camping sites on green lawn with clean ablutions. Day trips to all sights in the area.

Doro Nawas rests on the edge of the dry Aba-Huab River overlooking ancient plains with glorious views of the rugged Damaraland area. The camp provides an excellent base for exploring in game drive vehicles and on foot, as well as excursions to view fascinating geological phenomena, petroglyphs (prehistoric rock engravings) and San rock art at Twyfelfontein, Namibia’s first World Heritage Site. The 16 chalets are crafted in wood, canvas and thatch (including a family unit) to blend in with the surrounding scenery. Each unit comprises a bedroom, bathroom, outdoor shower, and veranda for star gazing or sleep outs under the stars. There are indoor and outdoor dining areas, a pool area and a small curio shop.

Desert Rhino Camp offers an original and exclusive wilderness experience and the possibility of seeing some of the largest free-ranging population of desert-adapted black rhino in Africa. The camp set in a wide valley sometimes flush with grass, has eight large meru-style tents with en-suite bathrooms. A tented dining and living area and plunge pool offers uninterrupted views of the desert and mountains, while extraordinary Welwitschia plants dot the plain in front of camp.  Other species seen in the area include Hartmann’s mountain zebra, giraffe and lion. Desert Rhino Camp is run in conjunction with Save the Rhino Trust so in addition to gaining amazing insight into the ecology and conservation of this area, a portion of guest revenue goes to the Trust and its conservation operations.

The Skeleton Coast Park is managed as a wilderness area. Terrace Bay has beach chalets and standard rooms, a restaurant, recreation room, shop, filling station and a landing strip for light aircraft. Mile 108, 72 & Jakkalsputs and Torra Bay (which opens from 01/12 to 31/01) provide camping and caravan sites with communal ablution blocks.
