Quiver trees, Nama culture, rugged landscape and an impressive sweeping rock formation characterise Canyon Village. Stone-and-thatch chalets are positioned in a horse-shoe design around a celebration of young quiver trees and the sprawling thatched central area, bedecked with bougainvillea, serving as restaurant, bar, lounge and reception. A cart drawn by a team of mules waits outside, conveying luggage to the chalets in a flurry of activity and laughter. ‘Take a walk on the South’s side’ is a suitable motto for this Fish River Canyon lodge. Epupa Camp offers you a relaxing yet exhilarating few days of personalised service and excellent meals in the seclusion of a lush riverine wilderness of Ana trees, wild figs, Makalani palms and Baobabs. It is situated on the southern bank of the Kunene River, from which the Kunene Region in the northwest of Namibia, takes its name. Epupa Camp offers three kinds of accommodation, namely tented rooms, self-catering tented-campsites and traditional campsites.
Elevated on wooden decks, with panoramic views over one of Onguma’s most beautiful waterholes is the new Onguma Camp Kala. With its conical, mud plastered central tower resembling a termite mound and the whole camp elevated on wooden stilts – it is set to raise the bench- mark to a whole new level. The thatched camp is centered around game viewing with numerous vantage points to take it all in – be it the comfortable lounge, the intimate cocktail bar or the beautiful deck, which is sunny by day and warmed by a fire pit at night. The dining area has an open plan ‘show’ kitchen and all-day pantry to ensure everyone feels right at home. For guests who want to be more active there is a gym, whilst those who want to relax, can while away the hours in comfort in the ground-level photographic hide, enjoy a massage in the treatment room or practice yoga on the yoga deck.
Camp Kala consists of just four guest Suites, linked by raised walkways, and although the lodge is perfect for exclusive use for 8 to 12 guests, the 4 suites can also be booked individually. Spacious and private, the open-plan suites have sumptuous twin or king-sized beds with a state-of-the-art air-cooling system. The comfortable seating area is equipped with a fully stocked personal bar. Each suite has its own deck with fire pit, outdoor shower and wood-fired hot tub. There is a walkway to the private, shaded sala with a king- size outdoor day bed – perfectly placed for an armchair safari or to ‘sleep out’ under the stars.

The remarkable stone buildings including the rooms, is wrapped in a timeless ambience, each beautifully decorated with historical artifacts. It is an ideal stopover for safaris into the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
Camelthorn Kalahari Lodge is aptly named as it finds itself between two sand dunes in an area peppered with Camelthorn trees which are endemic to this region. The 12 rondavel-style thatched huts are sparsely set against a backdrop of red dune sands, yellow grasses, piercing blue skies and the greens and browns of the wide-spread Camelthorn and Acacia trees. The en-suite bathrooms are fitted with a large shower, air conditioning and a tea and coffee station. This lodge is designed to cater for the more young at heart and the rooms are therefore at an adequate distance from one another. Each rondavel has a small stone patio from which the captivating scenes of the Kalahari Desert can be taken in.

Situated close to the world famous Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park the Kalahari Game Lodge owns a 40.000 Ha private game reserve where 55 mammals, 58 reptiles and amphibians, 105 bird species and 185 plant types have found a home. The lodge comprises of eight luxury chalets equipped with en-suite bathrooms, ceiling fans, air-cons and mosquito nets. The small kitchenette has tea and coffee making facility, wash basin, small fridge and a seating area. Each chalet also boasts with a private patio with idyllic views of the tranquil surroundings. At the lodge, guests can enjoy the restaurant, swimming pool, bonfire pit, and bar facilities. For the more adventurous visitors, the lodge also has six exclusive campsites located in the picturesque Auob riverbed. These campsites are widely spread and approx. 100 meters apart. Each is equipped with private ablution facilities, lighted by solar energy (advised to also bring own additional lighting) and the water heating system is a wood-fired donkey boiler. Housekeeping attends to each campsite daily.
Lapa Lange Lodge is situated only 35 km from Mariental in the Kalahari Desert. The lodge offers a refreshing swimming pool, a restaurant and a floodlit waterhole. Game drives are conducted in open vehicles and with a bit of luck even Rhinos can be spotted. Bitterwasser is a lodge and famous flying center located south of Windhoek. The Lodge offers accommodation in 22 deluxe bungalows, 14 rondavels and 6 farm house rooms. Simply stylish and elegant, the Zebra Kalahari Lodge is the most decadent of the 3 lodges on the Intu Afrika Private Game Reserve. After a short drive through the contrasting Kalahari Desert where game languish under trees or in pans, guests are welcomed with a much-needed refreshing drink and a smile as warm as the desert sun. The gurgling fish pond and the beautiful stone and wood buildings immediately soothe one’s soul and guests are ushered into the coolness of the lounge area overlooking a rather vibrant waterhole and swimming pool whilst logistics are efficiently handled. The rooms area are huge and the walls are decorated with ancient African masks and ebony furnishings and are fitted with air conditioners, a mini bar, a hairdryer and a coffee and tea station with a very large bathroom leading out to an outside shower. There are 16 rooms adjacent to the lodge area which consists of a lounge with comfortable leather seats, a dining area on a deck mirroring the waterhole and swimming pool and a bar. This lodge is ideal for families or for more mature travellers as the facilities at the main lodge are easily accessible from their rooms.

Easily accessible by sedan car and 30km from Mariental, this Kalahari lodge is a good overnight stop if travelling between Windhoek and the south or continuing to the Kgalagadi. There’s nothing like feeling the good earth underfoot, so stretch legs on the trails around the lodge, keeping eyes open for Springbok, Zebra and Wildebeest and take the chance to breathe in the character and energy of this distinctive area, feeling closer to the land.
Torgos Lodge is located in the South of Namibia adjoining the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The lodge is alongside the C15 route, 7 km from the Mata Mata border post. Situated alongside the dry Auob River bed, the stylish main building (Lapa) is constructed from stone and thatch and has a lounge, bar, and dining area. Outside the Lapa is a large stone terrace, a group barbeque area (braai boma) and swimming pool overlooking a waterhole in the riverbed. Accommodation consists of 10 units, sleeping two people each on twin beds. There are eight standard tented or stone chalets and two luxury stone chalets. Four units have basic self catering facilities. The surroundings are typical of the Kalahari region, the dry river bed lined by large camelthorn trees, red sand dunes and sparse vegetation. The lodge is within a 11000 Ha game camp hosting a wide variety of game, notably Gemsbok, Blue Wildebeest, Springbuck, Eland and Kudu. and many more. There is also abundant bird life for the avid bird watchers. including a breeding vulture colony.
