A Little Sossus Lodge

Perched on the rim of the Etendeka Plateau, Grootberg Lodge stands sentinel over the Klip River Valley. The lodge is the ideal midway stopover for visitors travelling between Etosha National Park and Swakopmund, allowing them to experience the true wilderness that is Damaraland. Fourteen cosy twin chalets and two-family units, powered with solar energy, are perched along the edge of the Etendeka Plateau and will make you feel at home. They are built from natural materials to blend into the surroundings. Private decks provide stunning views across the Klip River Valley. Each chalet is equipped with a private bathroom, a desk and a coffee and tea station. There are no electrical outlets, but we have a charging station in the main area of the lodge.

We invite you to experience the beauty and tranquillity of Hoodia Desert Lodge, surrounded by majestic mountains on the banks of the Tsauchab River. Only a 20 minute drive will bring you to the Sesriem Gate, the entrance to the world famous red sand-dunes of the Sossusvlei.

Built in the wattle and daub style under Mopane trees and connected by a labyrinth of paths, the main building and chalets of the lodge look like an African village. The walls are adorned by copies of the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein. Each of the 60 double room chalets (with air conditioning) sits in a vegetable and herb garden surrounded by a low wall. The gardens supply fresh ingredients for supper, which consists of a starter followed by a delicious buffet. There is a swimming pool for chilling out and a viewing point for relishing sunsets. The lodge at the gates of Damaraland is ideally suited for excursions to Twyfelfontein, the Petrified Forest and the Vingerklip rock pillar.

There is nothing quite like exploring untouched nature on foot. Far away from the rumbling and buzzing of tourists and hectic roads, yet so close to the Sossusvlei, a beautiful landscape presents itself, which wants to be discovered. This is not only about performance orientated sporting achievements, but rather about enjoying a pleasant stroll and exploring nature and wildlife along unique riverbeds and mountain slopes, hidden bushman paintings and the red sand dunes of the Namib.

Madisa Camp is situated in Namibia’s scenic Damaraland, on the very popular road to the Twyfelfontein World Heritage Site. The Camp is hidden between amazing rock formations scattered with Bushman Paintings, and the majestic Desert Elephant periodically pass through the area.  The swimming pool welcomes you after a long hot day on the road and gives you the much-needed chance to rejuvenate and explore your surroundings. Accommodation is provided in 7 Twin Bedded Safari tents, each with open-air bathrooms built into natural rock formations. The Camp also has 9 Private camp sites as well as 5 Overland camp sites. Each spacious campsite is shaded by large Mopane Trees with exquisite views of the Gauntegab River and the rock formations. The campsites have individual open-air private ablution facilities, situated on stilts and hidden amongst the tree tops.

The Gabus Game Ranch is a family-owned lodge in Namibia which was built back in 1995.  The lodge is a popular overnight destination for tourists and locals travelling to Etosha National Park.
