One of the highlights of Kaokoland in the far northern reaches of Namibia, Epupa is a magical belt of makalani palm forest on the perennial Kunene River. There’s something special about this Kaokoland refuge 180km north of Opuwo, where the Kunene River plunges into the gorge below. Two hundred metres upstream from the cascading falls, Omarunga Lodge is a cosy thatched lodge on the riverbank set under the palms, and the perfect place from which to experience Epupa enchantment. In between rest and relaxation, there is much to experience here. Take the golden opportunity to visit the Himba, one of the last semi-nomadic groups in Africa; get your courage in check for a guided walk in search of the Kunene crocs or a rafting trip on the river (seasonal). ; And at sunset join the sundowner drive to a hill overlooking Epupa Falls for that time of day when everything pauses for beauty and celebration. The camp offers camping accommodation on 4 exclusive campsites, each site with own toilet, shower – cold and hot water – and small shaded kitchen area with scullery and own fireplace. A small reception area has been built and provides the visitor with the check in and rules of the site as well as wood.  Light is provided via a 12 Volt DC solar operated system, no 220 volt is available on site
Water is supplied from a borehole close by but is not of drinking quality, water can only be used for cleaning, showering, toilet etc.
Each site can accommodate up to 3 vehicles and the maximum clients per site is 6 guests.  Total number of guests at the campsites at any one time is 24.  No guest WiFi is available.  The camp is furthermore connected via VHF radio and repeater to Hoanib Valley Camp, this can be of value of somebody getting lost or has a problem in the area

Opuwo means “finished” or “up to here and no further”. The town is the gateway to Koakoland and is the administrative hub of the Kunene Region. Opuwo Country Hotel is situated on a hilltop just outside of town.  The lodge is within easy reach of Kaoko-Otavi, Epupa Falls and Swartbooisdrift.

Camp Aussicht is a unique Rest camp in the Kaokoveld situated south of Opuwo. The camp is located with an extraordinary
view of the valley below and in a beautiful quiet and isolated position on the top of a hill. There are 6 campsites, each with 1-2 bucket showers, 1-2 pit latrine, running water and a fireplace. No power. There are also 4 twin rooms with running water and energy. Bucket showers and pit latrines are outside to be shared.

Etaambura Camp, Namibia’s first Himba-owned camp is situated on top of a hill near the holy plains of Onjuva, and is a real insider tip. Etaambura has five canvas and thatch units each with its own private deck. These units have all been built on wooden platforms allowing amazing views onto the surrounding landscape. Etaambura is the ideal place to relax. You might see a klipspringer or at dusk, a Jameson’s rock rabbit. Tiny footprints are evidence of genets and African wildcats. The calls of a diversity of birds, the whispery rustle of paper-bark and other Commiphora trees, bottle trees in bloom, the rich hues of purple-pod Terminalia with 360 degree views make this camp unforgettable. After a game drive where you might be fortunate enough to see black rhino, enjoy a stroll and explore the hill, a botanical treasure trove with its many endemic species of plants and shrubs. Or just chill on one of the decks and enjoy the view with a sundowner.

Rugged, iconic, startlingly life-filled Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is scenically located in a broad valley at the confluence of two tributaries of the Hoanib River in the northern part of the private Palmwag Concession. Its location thus straddles the Palmwag area and the iconic Skeleton Coast National Park, in one of the most remote areas of the Kaokoveld. Exclusivity is taken a step further as camp is only accessible by light aircraft and the camp itself consists of only seven twin-bedded tents and one family unit, each comprising stylish en-suite bedrooms with shaded outdoors decks. Flanked to the east and west by rugged hills, the camp looks out over stunning, starkly beautiful scenery and offers guests all the luxuries and amenities for an unforgettable stay.

The Lodge is situated inside Fort Sesfontein which has been re-established authentically even to details from the ruins of a historical Fort built in 1896. The place offers a pleasant atmosphere with hot dry days and cool nights.
