Desert Camp

Alte Kalkofen Lodge is situated 100 km west from the small historical town Keetmanshoop en-route the main tar road to Luderitz in the Southern part of Namibia. The lodge is set in a beautiful natural African garden where vast open spaces effortlessly combine with the rocky desert area. The lodge itself offers 10 bungalows as well as two rooms in the farm house, all overlooking large camel thorn trees growing in the river bed. The lodge features its own restaurant where breakfast is served daily. The restaurant is also open to guests for light lunches and home-cooked evening meals.

Built in an environmentally sensitive manner, primarily from wood, canvas and thatch, in an attractive ‘afro-village’ style, Sossus Dune Lodge offers guests an evocative and life changing experience. Situated within the Namib Naukluft Park, guests benefit from being able to reach Sossusvlei before sunrise, and stay until after sunset.

Kambaku Safari Lodge is situated about 20-25 km north of the Waterberg Nature Reserve on a 80 km² Wildlife Resort. The lodge faces a waterhole and is surrounded by woodlands of big thorn bushes and Omumborumbonga (leadwood) trees. Kambaku offers 8 double rooms and 2 luxury rooms. Activities include archery, clay pigeon shooting and of course game watching on a horse’s back, by foot when hiking or mountain biking.

Right on the doorstep of Namib-Naukluft National Park, not far from Sossusvlei the lodge is ideally suited for exploring the Namib Sand Sea – a World Heritage Site with some of the highest dunes in the world. Both lodges are located in the Namib Tsaris Conservancy, a private nature reserve of over 150,000 hectares, adjacent to NamibRand Nature Reserve in the west.

Immersed in the African Mopani bush, Ongava Tented Camp is a natural extension of this wild, wonderful landscape. The classic safari style camp is tucked in a hidden valley at the foot of a dolomite hill in Ongava Game Reserve bordering Etosha National Park.

The lodge is located close to the UNESCO heritage site of Twyfelfontein and where the desert adapted elephants roam.  The Twyfelfontein conservancy has been protecting the southern most roaming ground of the black rhino and elusive desert elephant. Guides from the local tribes compliment day-time game drives to track mountain zebra, kudu, springbok, klipspringer and if you are fortunate enough… the leopard! The adventurer in me took over at Mowani. Days were filled with game drives, hot air balloon trips over the Aba-Huab Valley, champagne breakfasts and al fresco meals amidst the dusky landscape beneath Mopani trees.

Epupa Camp offers you a relaxing yet exhilarating few days of personalised service and excellent meals in the seclusion of a lush riverine wilderness of Ana trees, wild figs, Makalani palms and Baobabs. It is situated on the southern bank of the Kunene River, from which the Kunene Region in the northwest of Namibia, takes its name. Twyfelfontein Country Lodge, a true landmark, is situated in the heart of one of the world’s most magnificent wilderness regions. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Twyfelfontein in Damaraland is home to one of the largest collections of rock-art engravings found in Southern Africa. Not only did the Khoi-San and tribes of ancient years leave us with a true cultural heritage, but the whole area is characterised by natural wonders such as Doros Crater, Burnt Mountain, Organ Pipes, Petrified Forest and desert-adapted animals – of which the desert-adapted elephant is probably the most well-known species. Using natural stone, carefully selected paint colours and thatched roofs, its design compliments the sandstone rock formations with minimum visual impact on this picturesque landscape. Spitzkoppen Lodge lies amidst the granite boulders of the the beautiful Spitzkoppe scenery. The Lodge offers 15 generously spaced chalets, each with private bathroom and covered outside viewing deck.  The buildings are linked with elevated walkways all constructed to be wheelchair friendly and minimise the impact on the environment. The dining, lounge and bar area open onto the split level pool deck and the natural rock pool.

Anticipation builds up as you turn off the main gravel road toward Canyon Lodge. The soft colours of apricot sand merging with the pale green of euphorbias is a prelude to the loveliness of the lodge surrounds. As you turn a final bend, the lodge comes into view.
